Ingredients

  • 4 large potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup grated cheese (such as Gruyère or cheddar)
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup fresh herbs (such as thyme or rosemary), chopped
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat and sauté the onions and garlic until translucent.
  3. In a large bowl, combine the sliced potatoes, sautéed onions and garlic, herbs, salt, and pepper.
  4. Layer half of the potato mixture in a greased baking dish.
  5. Sprinkle half of the cheese over the first layer.
  6. Add the remaining potato mixture on top and finish with the remaining cheese.
  7. Pour the heavy cream evenly over the top.
  8. Bake for 45-50 minutes or until the potatoes are tender and the top is golden brown.
  9. Let it cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
